Fighting for Ward 3 and St. Paul
As Chair of the Housing and Redevelopment Authority, I led our City’s efforts to address the affordable housing crisis by our passage of:
$71 million investment for affordable housing over the next 3 years.
The creation of the City’s first Affordable Housing Trust Fund.
Authored our first deliberate use of 4D Affordable Housing Incentive Program, a tool to preserve naturally occurring affordable housing.
Working towards 20% affordable housing at the Ford Site.
Lead City Council author on raising the minimum wage to $15 in St. Paul.
Lead City Council author on Earned Safe and Sick Time for St. Paul workers.
Championed Paid Parental Leave for all St. Paul employees.
Spearheaded the award-winning Right Track program - a public-private partnership that joins St. Paul youth with professional internships and job training.
Co-Founder and Co-Chair of Full Stack Initiative, a public-private partnership formed in 2018, that is focused on attracting, retaining and growing innovative jobs and business in St Paul. The initiative has already added 200,000 square feet of creative office space, attracted 50+ tech events, and multiple start-up incubators and companies to St. Paul.
Helped organize public, private, and non-profits into the Greater Metropolitan Workforce Board to address the regional labor shortage.
Led on the planning for the Riverview Corridor, a modern-streetcar from downtown St. Paul to the blue line/airport/Mall of America along West 7th.
Worked with cities across Minnesota as a League of Minnesota Cities board member to make additional transportation funding our top-priority at the Capitol.
Secured Funding for:
Expo Safe Routes to School - Implementing pedestrian improvements and additional sidewalks around the school.
Snelling Ave Medians - Making this corridor safer and more attractive.
Grand Ave Pedestrian improvements - Creating a safer Grand Ave from Hamline to Victoria.
Montreal/West 7th/ Lexington intersection realignment - Changing the alignment of this dangerous intersection starting this summer.
Double the amount of mill & overlays (roadway improvement) the city does per year.
Continue to lead the proactive, thoughtful and visionary planning as we redevelop the Ford Site.
Constituent Service & Outreach
Provide first-class and responsive constituent service to all residents.
Co-author of St Paul’s commitment to 2030 climate action plan.
Supported the modernization of our recycling and waste removal and reuse.
Passed requirements that all parades, festivals, events have recycling options.
LONG TERM INVESTMENTS
While Chair of the Library Board oversaw the renovations of Highland, Central, Arlington Hills, Rondo, and Sunray libraries.
Water infrastructure - as Regional Water board-member supported the continued long-term investments in our water infrastructure.
Supported the City’s commitment to keeping our AAA bond rating.
NEIGHBORHOOD CAPITAL INVESTMENTS
Highland Park Community Center playground
Edgcumbe Rec Center improvements
Highland village streetscape and sidewalks
Renovation of Highland library
Numerous bike lanes and street reconstructions projects.
Secured funding for the expansion of Fire Services at Station 19 (Highland) adding a ladder truck, and more coverage for the area.
Added criminal investigators to ensure victims of crimes can have their crimes investigated and resolved in a timely and dignified manner.
Supported the investment in community ambassadors, Safe Summer Nights and additional community policing outreach and training.
Co-founded with Ramsey County Attorney John Choi the annual Northland Cup City vs. County charity hockey game - raising $20k annually for St. Paul and Ramsey County Domestic Abuse Intervention Project.
An early and vocal proponent of common-sense gun laws - making it a St. Paul priority at the Capitol.
A leader in the attracting and securing of MN United into St. Paul and the Construction of Allianz Field.
A strong advocate of the Great River Passage plan & advocate for investment in Watergate Marina.
Advocated for expanded library and recreation center hours & additional funding for programs and library collections.
Modernized liquor laws so that more of our local restaurants could serve alcohol and so that liquor stores could stay open until 10 p.m. during the week.
Supported investments in the Children Museum, CHS Field, Palace Theatre, and the Minnesota Museum of American Art.
